Choosing a career path isn’t always easy—especially for students who aren’t sure a traditional four-year college is the right fit. A growing number of schools are turning to technology to help students discover their strengths and connect them to real-world careers. Halstead High school is using a platform called YouScience to expand opportunities through Career and Technical Education, or CTE.

Across classrooms, students are learning that career success doesn’t come in just one form.

Instead of asking students what they want to be, Halstead High School is using YouScience, an aptitude-based assessment that helps identify what students are naturally good at—and how those skills align with high-demand careers.

The results connect students to Career and Technical Education pathways, including fields like healthcare, manufacturing, information technology, and skilled trades.

Unlike traditional interest surveys, YouScience measures abilities like problem-solving, numerical reasoning, and spatial skills—giving students insight into careers they may not have previously considered.

By combining YouScience with hands-on CTE programs, schools hope to better prepare students for life after graduation—whether that’s college, technical training, or entering the workforce.

For many students, it’s not about limiting options—but expanding them.

School leaders say the goal is simple: help every student find a pathway that fits their strengths and leads to a successful future.
