Cooking Up Careers: New Culinary Room Plan Gives Students a Taste of the Workforce

At Halstead High School, career-focused learning plays a central role in preparing students for life beyond graduation. One program that exemplifies this commitment is the culinary arts program, where students gain hands-on experience that builds practical skills for both post-secondary education and the workforce. Inside the current culinary classroom, students move through lessons that mirror real kitchen environments—learning technique, teamwork, and responsibility.
Looking ahead, the district has a vision to elevate this experience even further. With the support of the community through a school bond, plans are underway for a new culinary classroom designed to reflect modern, commercial-style kitchens while maintaining a warm, approachable atmosphere. Architectural plans and renderings highlight a space that blends professionalism with comfort, ensuring students feel both challenged and supported as they learn.
